Bridge of Don Gardening Competition 2023

This year, we’re giving you the opportunity again to show off your garden. No matter how big or small, if you can grow plants, you can take part!

There will be three categories:

1) Garden displays – For gardens which add colour and interest to your street and surrounding area.

2) Best use of a small space – If you just have a planter, a couple of tubs, or even just a single window box, if you think it’s pretty, other people will too! .

3) Tallest sunflower – One for the young (at heart). How high can you grow yours?

Rules and Information

The competition is open to all residents who fall within the Bridge of Don community council boundaries – you can only enter a BoD garden address. You can see the area included here

There will be two prizes for each category.

You can enter one, two, or all three categories, but only one entry per category please. Please send a separate entry per category.

The judge’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

All entries for categories 1 & 2 must be received by Friday 21st July 2023. Judging will take place over three weeks from then to 11th August.

We may come and visit your garden – you do not need to be available when the judges call. For categories 1 & 2, they must be able to see the display from the roadside. We’ll contact you ahead of time if we want to visit.

For the sunflower competition, let us know by Friday 25th August if you’d like to take part.

The names (but not addresses) of the best entries in each category will be published following the awards presentation on the BoD community council Facebook and web pages.

If you would like to nominate a neighbour, please do, but make sure you have their permission first.

We’d love to see entries from younger residents but if you are under 16 could you please get a parent/grandparent/guardian to enter on your behalf?

To enter, email up to three photographs along with your name, address, email address and a phone number to   Please detail which part of your garden you are entering if it isn’t obvious (front, side etc.).

If you’re entering the sunflower competition, please tell us how high it is (ideally leave it as close to 25th as possible to email us, to get the greatest height) and include a photo with a tape measure alongside – we may come round to measure the tallest ones (again, we’ll let you know when that will be).

If you are entering on behalf of someone else, please provide all the above details for yourself and for them, and confirm that you have their permission to do so (Please include their age if you’re entering on behalf of a child). This form may be handy.

If you’d like to take part but aren’t sure about getting photos to us, please just email us and we’ll happily come and take them for you.

Happy growing!
